I'm Feeling Feelings!

Many of the problems that bring people to therapy are linked to trying to avoid emotions that come up naturally as a human. This can look like drinking, drug use, disordered eating behaviors, self harm, avoidance of activities in life, distracting, and countless others.

Acceptance is being willing to opening yourself up to the present reality of emotions. Can you be open to accepting what you do not have control over? This includes thoughts and feelings! I make this sound simple and it can be the most challenging thing ever. Feelings can be quite uncomfortable. Thoughts can be super distressing. When we accept that we can not control thoughts and feelings they can become less "sticky."

Acceptance means assessing where you are at emotionally and then making space to figure out what steps need to be made towards change.
